Instructions are a very important part of our lives. We use them every day to help us to make things, find our way to different places - these are just two ways they help us. Can you think of more ways that we use instructions?
This week we are going to look at recipes. Over the last few weeks we have all been probably doing more cooking and baking and chances are you may have used a recipe to help you. Following a recipe is a good idea when we are cooking as it tells us what we need to use and how much (ingredients) and how we need to use them (instructions or method).
Look at the recipe for the butterfly buns. Note the words at the start of each of the instructions - turn, beat, add. List the words in your copy. If you have a recipe book at home, pick a recipe out and look at the words used it in it. Are they the same/different? What new words have you found? Use a dictionary to help you if you find some you don't understand. Read through the recipe here and answer the questions. If you get a chance you might bake the buns to see if the recipe works!
Finally if you get a chance you can write a recipe for a milkshake or something which you enjoy cooking. Use some of the words which you have on your list to help you.

Question Words ?
Asking questions is something we do all the time. How do we learn? We ask questions. This week we will look at question words - which, will, would, whose, how? When we ask questions we use these words - who is that? When you are doing your reading this week, look out for question words and make a list of them. I have also included a worksheet for you to work on about questions.

The Caterpillar and the Butterfly
This week you are reading a poem called The Caterpillar and the Butterfly. Read the poem and answer the questions about it. I have included a link here for you to read a little more about the life cycle of the butterfly - Butterfly life cycle . Keep an eye out for butterflies in your own gardens. I have noticed lots of Red Admirals in my own garden over the last few weeks.
Compound Words
Compound words are words which we can make from putting two words together to make a new word with a new meaning - rain+drop + raindrop. Do the word sums to make new words. Can you think of any more examples of compound words. If you can you could make a list of them. Also when you are doing your reading this week, keep a look out for examples of compound words.

This week we will practise using here, there and where. Complete the sentences with the correct words. Perhaps when you are doing your reading this week, you might look out for these words and look at how they are used. You could use them to write a story of your own.
There is also a comprehension activity The Saints and the Weather. Read the story and answer the questions about it. It seems those saints had an interesting conversation! What do you think? There is also some work on word study for you to do if you wish.
Alphabetical Order
Alphabetical order is the term we use when we arrange a list of words by looking at their first letter - apple, ball, catch, drawing. If two words have the same first letter, we look at the second letter - ladder, letter. If the first and second letters are the same, look at the third letter - label, ladder, last. If you get a chance, look at a dictionary and see how the words are arranged. Have a look at the lists of words on the worksheet and see if you can put them into alphabetical order.
