Fourth Class English 25th - 29th May 2020

25th May 2020

Instructions are a very important part of our lives.  We use them every day to help us to make things,  find our way to different places - these are just two ways they help us.  Can you think of more ways that we use instructions?

This week we are going to look at recipes.  Over the last few weeks we have all been probably doing more cooking and baking and chances are you may have used a recipe to help you.  Following a recipe is a good idea when we are cooking as it tells us what we need to use and how much  (ingredients) and how we need to use them (instructions or method).

Look at the recipe for the butterfly buns.  Note the words at the start of each of the instructions - turn, beat, add.  List the words in your copy.  If you have a recipe book at home, pick a recipe out and look at the words used it in it.  Are they the same/different?  What new words have you found?  Use a dictionary to help you if you find some you don't understand.   Read through the recipe here and answer the questions.  If you get a chance you might bake the buns to see if the recipe works!

Finally if you get a chance you can write a recipe for a milkshake or something which you enjoy cooking.  Use some of the words which you have on your list to help you.

Nouns
Finally we will focus on nouns.  As you know nouns are naming words - table, chair, flour.  A proper noun is a noun which needs a capital letter - your name and names of places are an example.  Complete the activities

I would be very happy to correct work for you and you can upload it to Seesaw or email it to me at msfoleyschool@gmail.com
Continue with your reading, Nessy  and to check the Primary Planet website daily for new activities.   I will post some dictation for you on Seesaw on Wednesday so remember to check your folders.
